Stars, Stripes & Sea Breezes: Patriotic Coastal Decor with Thrifted Charm

There’s something magical about summer by the sea—warm breezes, salty air, and celebrations that bring family and friends together. At Starfish Cottage, we love finding ways to blend our coastal style with the spirit of the season, and what better time to do that than during the patriotic holidays? This year, I decided to bring some red, white, and coastal blue into our decor using upcycled finds and a few thrift flip projects. It’s such a fun (and affordable!) way to give old items new life while creating a festive and breezy vibe perfect for Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, or just celebrating summer in your seaside home. Some of my favorite pieces include: A weathered wooden flag made from salvaged pallet wood and whitewashed to fit our beachy style Mason jars painted in coastal colors, wrapped with twine and mini starfish, perfect for holding candles or fresh flowers Thrifted frames turned into star-spangled art with nautical fabric and vintage buttons A coastal wreath made from driftwood and burlap, accented with tiny flags and seashells The key is to keep it simple, light, and natural—think sandy tones, sea glass blues, and just a pop of patriotic red. Mixing textures like rope, wood, and linen adds that relaxed coastal charm we all love. So whether you live by the shore or just dream of it, adding a few DIY touches and thrifted finds can bring that coastal patriotic feeling right to your front porch or mantel. Wishing you a season full of sunshine, sea breezes, and a little star-spangled joy! — From my cottage to yours,
